Lost Show #7: Bem Brasil #28: Milton Nascimento's Clube da Esquina! Original Air date 01/20/13

On this Bem Brasil with Will Crawford, We enjoyed one of the most amazing double albums ever produced in Brazil: Clube Da Esquina! Originally a Brazilian music artists collective, mainly from the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, It is also the name of this double album from 1972. 

Featuring  Milton Nascimento. and with orchestrations from Eumir Deodato and Wagner Tiso under the conduction of the renowned clarinetist/composer/orchestrator Paulo Moura, 

It mixes rock and roll, progressive rock, bossa nova and jazz styles, with Brazilian country music and classical music influences. The Beatles and the Platters were also an important influence on Clube da Esquina. Together with Tropicália, Clube da Esquina is usually regarded as the Brazilian musical movement that achieved the greatest international resonance in the post-bossa nova period (beginning in the late 1960s and early 1970s).

On Hour #2, we enjoyed amazing songs and grooves from Milton’s greatest peers, including 14 Bis, Toninho Horta, Lô Borges, Beto Guedes, Plus a bunch of amazing instrumentalists. Unfortunately, this file was also lost. This show is slated to be rebroadcast some time in the future.

Bem Brasil #27, A Two Hour All-Star Show Featuring Chico Buarque. Original Air date: 01/13/2013

On 2013's second Bem Brasil with Will Crawford, we pulled out all the stops! No fooling around with that second tier stuff! This time, we got serious; top shelf talent only! And to prove we meant it, this show's featured artist was none other than the great Chico Buarque, who, besides being a great composer, is also a dramatist, writer and poet. His music includes social, economic and cultural commentary on Brazil and Rio de Janeiro in particular.

On Hour #2, we enjoyed amazing songs and grooves from Chico's greatest peers, including Milton Nascimento,  Guinga, Nana Caymmi, Nara Leão, Edu Lobo, Djavan, Carlos Lyra, Vinicius Cantuária, Paulinho da Viola, Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Ney Matogrosso and old school masters, including Nelson Gonçalves, Dorival Caymmi and Adoniran Barbosa, Plus a bunch of amazing instrumentalists.

Lost Show #6: Bem Brasil #26, Featuring Jobim, Vinicius, Toquinho &; Miúcha Live In Italy! Originally Aired 01/06/2013

It was a brand new year and change was in the air. Staring in 2013, we switched things around and started the shows with our featured artists, moving the variety hour to hour #2.

2013's first Bem Brasil with Will Crawford featured an historic joint performance by Bossa nova giants Antônio Carlos Jobim and  Vinicius de Moraes, accompanied by the great guitarist/singer Toquinho and famed singer Miúcha, all performing their timeless songs in front of an enthralled italian audience! This 1978 show is also noted for being one of Vinicius' last international recordings before his death in 1980.

In the second hour, we enjoyed classic live tracks from various artists, including  Elis Regina, Maria Bethânia, Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso, Jorge Benjor, Milton Nascimento, Gilberto Gil, João Bosco, Gal Costa and Djavan, among others.

Lost Show #5: Bem Brasil #25: Celebrating 40 Years of Acabou Chorare. Original Air Date 12/30/2012

It was the last show of 2012 and, to end the year on a high note, we played an unquestionable masterpiece that we saved just for the occasion, namely, a classic album by the Brazilian musical group Novos Baianos. The album was  Acabou Chorare. 

Adopting the expressive guitar of Jimi Hendrix and the "brasilidade" of Assis Valente, and mainly the strong influence of João Gilberto, who also served as a mentor of the group at the time of recording the album, the group produced an album that shows a great versatility of musical genres. 

In 2007, in the "The 100 Greatest Albums of Brazilian Music" by Rolling Stone,  Acabou Chorare came at the first position, being considered a masterpiece by specialists, producers and journalists.

In the first hour of this very special Bem Brasil with Will Crawford, we let our hair down (Again, but all in Portuguese, as we usually do at the end of every month) and rocked out with some of Brazil’s best artists and bands, including Marisa Monte, Titãs, Barão Vermelho, Biquini Cavadão, Boca Livre, Secos e Molhados, Kid Abelha, Marina, Engenheiros do Hawaii, Ira!, Capital Inicial and many more!

Like the previous three shows, this file was also lost. Like the album from show#17, This album was replayed in its entirety on show #50.

Lost Show #4: Bem Brasil #24: The Rock Show, Featuring Raul Seixas. Originally Aired 12/23/2012

On this Sunday’s Bem Brasil with Will Crawford, we  let our hair down and rocked out with some of Brazil’s best bands, including Gang 90 & Absurdettes, Titãs, Barão Vermelho, Biquini Cavadão, Nenhum de Nos, Legiao Urbana, Kid Abelha, Marina, Tribalistas, Pato Fu, Capital Inicial and many, many more!

In the second hour, we’ll enjoyed the manifold grooves of Raul Seixas, sometimes called the "Father of Brazilian Rock". 

Though virtually unknown outside of Brazil,Raul Seixas was placed in 19th position in a List of One Hundred Greatest Artists of Brazilian music sponsored by the Brazilian edition of Rolling Stone magazine,^[2] topping the likes of Milton Nascimento, Maria Bethania, Heitor Villa-Lobos and others, demonstrating the influence that Seixas' music continues to hold today.

Lost Show #3: Bem Brasil #23: Celebrating 100 years of Luiz Gonzaga. Originally Aired 12/16/2012

On the 23rd installment of Bem Brasil with Will Crawford, we focused on Luiz Gonzaga,  also known as the "king of baião" and "Gonzagão". A talented accordionist and singer, he is considered to be responsible for the promotion of northeastern music throughout Brazil. 

If alive, he would have been 100 years old on December 13, 2012.

we’ll visit the northeastern part of the country and hear great tunes composed and performed by musicians from that region.

Lost Show #2! Bem Brasil #22, Featuring Caetano Veloso's First Album (1968). Originally Aired 12/09/2012

On the 12/09/12 installment of Bem Brasil with Will Crawford, we enjoyed  Caetano Veloso's 1968 album, one of the first Tropicália efforts. This album is one of the earliest experiments in fusion between  Brazilian popular music and psychedelic rock.  

In the variety hour, we grooved to sambas from Chico Buarque, MPB4, Jair Rodrigues and Exporta Samba,  Rocked out with Raul Seixas, Lobão, Gilberto Gil, Ira! and O Terço,  experienced  regional sounds from Milton Nascimento, Dominguinhos, Conjunto Rosa De Ouro,Paulo Moura, Renato Teixeira,  Gal Costa, Tom Zé and too many more to list here.
